The Tree of Knowledge has been a significant character in the origins of all faiths, mythologies and traditions. Also known as the Tree of Good and Evil, it has been shown that eating its fruit imparts knowledge of everything that is good and evil and all that lies in between. Due to its power and significance, in most of its depictions the Tree and its fruits are forbidden from being touched or consumed as doing so would lead one to lose all innocence and gain immense knowledge.

 This piece captures the Tree in full bloom, as it grows and rises in complete abandonment, far away from civilization and completely untouched by humanity. The trunk of the Tree is highlighted with a swirling pattern that plays with color and exuberant imagery, contrasting with the muted background and the Tree’s dispirited surroundings. It grows and blossoms even though there is no nourishment in sight. It rises towards the light up above, undeterred by what stands in the way or where it grows from. Even though forbidden and hidden away, the Tree of Good and Evil makes us question: are we ready to accept the knowledge that it imparts?
