A digital invention and movement that changed the course of history and the very definition of what constitutes as currency in our modern economy. It was with the recording of the first Bitcoin transaction on 12 Jan 2009 that cryptocurrency came to the forefront of the public consciousness and offered a liberating alternative to economic conventions, investment opportunities, peer to peer transactions and decentralised finance (DeFi). As ground-breaking as Bitcoin truly is, it is the mystery that shrouds its creator or team of creators that intrigues the world at large. Going by the name of Satoshi Nakamoto, there has been much speculation of who Satoshi is with entire forums and websites being dedicated to resolving this mystery. Is Satoshi just one person or a team of people? Is Satoshi female? How old is Satoshi? Where does Satoshi live? All unanswered questions that add to the mystique of Satoshi Nakamoto.

This digital artwork is an ode to the mysterious creator of Bitcoin, in which we find an androgynous figure locking eyes with the viewer from behind a transparent mask which is swirling in colourful patterns. The mask conceals nothing but only draws more attention to the confident and unapologetic gaze of the figure behind it. In the background, we see golden mandalas associated with the Bitcoin and its design which also add to the opulence of the artwork.  As the masked figure looks back at us, it makes us question how enlightened we truly are and whether we are ready to explore the possibilities that lay beyond the conventions of our socioeconomic norm and into the beautiful world of DeFi.
