Art and Interiors go hand in hand, as when a collector procures an artwork, there is a tremendous responsibility of ensuring that the piece is given the space and light that it deserves. This is where interiors and their design come in to play, in helping maintain the intricate balance between art and the space that it is displayed in.
As a female artist with her own unique style and perspective, the message that I try to convey through my work is that there is Beauty in Diversity. Our world is beautiful because it is diverse and full of contrasts. I try my hardest to highlight this aspect and show that our differences are what makes us unique and divine. I also endeavor to produce contemporary art that evokes a sense of joy and celebrates the intensity of emotions.
Along with keeping my message and purpose in mind when I paint, I also think about where the collectors will place my paintings and the space it would need. Hence, I always crave for the opportunity to see how my artwork will be displayed.
While I think that each piece of contemporary, modern or abstract art is a statement on its own and should not be defined by the interiors, the art must be highlighted in a way that does not distort the rest of the area or disrupts the natural flow of energy in the space.
With my experience working with interior designers, modern art galleries and providing consultations on how my work should be displayed in commercial spaces, I have gained a fair bit of knowledge about the innerworkings between art and space design. Here are some tips that I offer to collectors:
- Think about the feelings you want to evoke when you are in this room and choose a piece of artwork that helps in building and reinforcing those feelings.
- Not everything has to match in a room. I often create artwork display that complements the interior design but does not necessarily match it. An art display needs to make a statement exclusive from what it is surrounded with.
- I encourage art lovers to choose art that speaks to them and reflects their taste and individuality. It should be a piece that is indicative of their unique personality and fits in with their decor style and tastes.
- When we talk about merging art and interiors, it does not have to be something expensive. There are countless avenues for affordable art which can provide you with options to buy and display art that can make a drastic difference in the way you perceive your surroundings.
In the end, the most important thing when it comes to art and space design is that one should be authentic and true to themselves. Art transforms walls into monuments of personal expression. It helps turn a house into a home that is an embodiment of your life’s philosophy and individuality.
Therefore, choose art that not only hangs on a wall but is also a personal statement about your style and identity.
