4 Up-and-Coming Female Contemporary Artists to watch out for

4 Up-and-Coming Female Contemporary Artists to watch out for

The art market is a rapidly changing landscape with new artworks, artists and collectives emerging every day. That is the beauty of working in an industry that thrives on fresh creative talent and vision. Over the course of a few years, it has been incredible to see a significant number of female contemporary artists emerging on to the global art scene and presenting incredibly relevant and thought-proving art for the world to consider.

As a contemporary artist myself, I am always left in awe when I see the tremendous variety of perspectives, mediums and ideologies that are being presented by current female artists in their art. There are so many immensely talented women in art and this blog would like to highlight 4 female contemporary artists that are really making a mark, not only in the region but also worldwide. So, let us begin…

Quite the prolific artist, Alberta has been reaching newer heights with every passing year as she continues to lead female art exhibitions and produce artworks that celebrate womanhood, self-compassion and black empowerment. Being a multimedia artist, her work is an ambitious combination of film, collages, sculpture and performance providing a hyper-immersive experience to viewers.

Based out of the UK, Alberta has exhibited and performed in various solo and group shows all over the world, including at Jupiter Artland, Gothenburg Biennale, The Lisson Gallery and the National Art Gallery of the Bahamas. Her work has been acquired for the UK National Collections, The Scottish National Gallery Collections, Glasgow Museums Collections and The Contemporary Art Research Collection at Edinburgh College of Art amongst other private collections.

An incredible artist from UAE, Sarah is also a gifted curator and a dynamic educator who is making waves with her art that explores the merging of cultures and identities between the West and the Middle east. Her work invites the viewer to introspect and question the entire notion of belonging and ownership of ourselves and our collective identity.

With an MA in Painting from the Royal College of Art in London, Sarah’s work has been exhibited regionally and internationally at Somerset House (London), Salone del Mobile (Milan), Versus Art Project (Istanbul), Art Jameel, Art Dubai and Abu Dhabi Art.

Based in California, Yasmine Diaz has an incredible portfolio of work that is inspired from her razor-sharp perspective on class, culture, gender, religion and family structures. In her art, she utilizes mixed media collage, photo-based fiber etching and immersive installation involving video elements to explore how her own personal experiences connect with society’s issues at large.

She has been a recipient of numerous awards and residencies such as the Harpo Visual Artists Grant, the California Community Foundation Visual Artist Fellowship, the Marble House Residency in Dorset, VT; and the University of Michigan Efroymson Visiting Artist Residency in Arbor, MI.

Being one of the leading female artists out of Saudi Arabia, Ghada Al Rabea’s work is an absolute treat to look at. With the reimagining of iconic artworks in her own unique candy-coloured vision, Ghada captures the intricacies of daily life in Saudi by using candy wrappers instead of traditional paints; tackling complex themes with the simplest of mediums.

Currently, Ghada’s work is being exhibited in Athr Gallery in Jeddah and she is an active member of the Saudi art scene and is part of growing female art base within the region.

And with that, I have just given you 4 amazing contemporary artists to follow, explore and appreciate. So, go check these wonderful women out and show them some love!
